The Poor Rate of the Parish of Saint
Mary Abbotts Kensington in the County
of Middlesex

William Smith< no role > One of the Churchwardens of the Parish
of Saint Mary Abbotts Kensington in the County of Middlesex
Maketh Oath and Saith that Charles Weston< no role > the Vestry
Clerk of the said Parish is as this Deponent is advised
and verily believes a material Witness in Support of the
said Rate without the Benefit of whose Testimony the said
Appeal cannot with safety to the support of the said Rate
be heard And this Deponent Saith that it was expected
and intended that the said Charles Weston< no role > as such Vestry
Clerk and Sollicitor in the Affairs of the said Parish
would have Conducted the necessary business at the
Session in support of the said Rate And this Deponent
Saith he hath been informed and verily believes it to be
true that the said Charles Weston< no role > left his House at
Kensington some days previous to the twentieth of
November last and that on Thursdaylast the
Wife of the said Charles Weston< no role > Called in this Deponent
and informed him that she had received a Letter
from the said Charles Weston< no role > who was then in same
part of the County of Sums upon urgent Business
wherein he said that he could not return in time to
be present at the Hearing of the said Appeal And
that some other Person must be employed as Sollicitor
for the said Parish at the Sessions now holden but
that he the said Charles Weston< no role > had within to the
said William Forsyth< no role > one of the Appellants to
request that the Hearing of the said Appeal might be
postponed until another Session or to that Effect
