came into his House yesterday and asked him for a shilling
(Holden asked him) saying they had gathered a shilling
from House to House, and that Mr. Crockford next Door
gave them a shillingThey said it was for the benefit of
distressed ChildrenHe asked if it was for Bethnal Green
Parishthey answered no, it was for any Parish, he gave
them a shilling and asked for a Bill, they said they would
send it next dayafter they went out about ten Minutes
they went from door to Door, two Neighbours refused and
two gave them cach a shilling, soon after this he was
informed by a neighbour one Mr. Clue that the Prisoners
were Impostures and that forty Pounds reward had been
offered for taking them up and that they had collected a
Great deal of Money at Newington under false Pretences
uppon getting this Information he looked for them last night
but could not find themBut this Morning he saw
them go into a gingerbread Bakers opposite to him
where they got a shilling, upon which he sent for
Mr. Clue, and went together to a Potatoe Warehouse
where the two prisoners then wereand then challenged
the Prisoners as to their right to collect money upon
which the Prisoners (Wright) immediately said&
give you Change of this Person (Meaning the Prison
Holden) saying at the same time that he (Holden)
had been cheating and defrauding many Poor Children
the Informant then took them into Custody.
