The Churchwardens of the Parish of West Ham in the County of
Essex Appellants
and
The Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint James
at Clarkenwell in the County of Middlesex Respondants

Petition of Appeal


Sets forth That by Virtue of an Order under the Hands and Seals of George Booth< no role > Esquire and
William Blackborow< no role > Esquire Two of his of his Majestys Justices of the Peace for the County of Middlesex End
being of the Quorum bearing date the Ninth day of February Instant Mary Newby< no role > by and her three
Children namely Sarah< no role > Aged 13 Eliz< no role > . Aged 4 year & Marianne< no role > aged 2 years were removed and Conveyed from the Parish of Saint James at Clerkenwell in the said County
of Middlesex to the said Parish of West Ham as the Place of their last legal Settlement

That the Petitioners thinking themselves Aggrieved by the said Order
as respects the [..] Eliz: and Marianne Appeal against the same and humbly pray a day to hear and
Determine same.

On which Petition the following Order was made

Middlesex At the General Session of the Peace of our Lord the King holden
for the County of Middlesex at the Sessions House for the said County
on Monday the 21st. day of February in the 25th. Year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lord George the Third King of Great Britain Etc

Order


It is Ordered That the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint James
at Clerkenwell in this County have Notice of the above Appeal And that they and all persons
Concerned Do attend this Court on Thursday reat the Twenty fourth day of February instant
at Time of the Clock in the Forenoon of the same day to hear and abide the Judgment and
Determination of this Court Touching the said Appeal

Appellants Case


The Pauper Mary Newby< no role > & her said 3 Children were removed from Clerkenwell
to West Ham in pursuance of the above OrderAnduponby her Examination since
taken on Oath It Appears that she was never Marrd. that her Settlemt. is in West
Ham & so is that of her Wlost Dane Sarah by being born there a Bastard but her 2 youngest were
Born in Clerkenwell Parish Bastards wch parish must Consequently be the place of their
Settlemt. & therefore West Ham on Tuesday the 15 instant gave Notice of Appeal (a Copy
is Annexed) and at the same time shewed the Overseer the Pampers Examn. And he
Pmised to take them Back but has not, It is therefore hoped the Court will ordr.
