To the Worshipful his Majestys Justices of the peace for the
County of Middlesex in their General Session of the peace assembled

The Humble Petition and Appeal of Lydia Bulkley< no role > of the
Town of Uxbridge in the County of Middlesex against such
part of the Rate made the 14th. day of July 1784 for the
Relief of the poor of the said Town as respects the
Messuage or Tenement and premises in which your
Petitioner now resides and Dwells.

Sheweth


That Mr. Higginson a Merchant in London some time
since purchased of the Representation of Mr. Aldridge several
Houses in the Town of Uxbridge And after repairing the
same let one of such Houses to your Petitioner in which She
now lives at £30 P Ann

That the Chapel Wardens and Overseers of the poor of
the said Town of Uxbridge have lately made a Rate for the
Relief of the poor thereof and have rated and assessed your
Petitioner to such Rate at the Rate and in proportion to the
Rent of £50 pr. Ann for her said premises.

That as your petitioner pays a real and bonafide Rent of £30
pr Ann only she conceives She ought not to be rated to the Poors
Rate for more than what she pays or in proportion thereto according
to the usual mode of rating & Assessing the other Inhabitants of the
said Town of Uxbridge

Your Petitioner being aggreived by such Rate or Assessment
humbly appeals to this Court against the same or such part
thereof as relates to the premes occupied by your Petitioner
and humbly prays your Worships will be pleased to appoint
a Day in this present Session for hearing & Determining of
her said Appeal & for granting your Petr. such Relief in the
premises as to your worships shall seem meet And that the
Chapel wardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Town
of Uxbridge and all parties concerned on Notice hereof
be then and there order'd to attend.
