The Parish of Teddington Appellants
and
The Parish of St. Anne's Westmr . Responds

Brief for the Yopelts.

Mary Gould< no role > Singlewoman by virtue on an Order of removal under
the hands and seals of Robert Taylor< no role > and John Barnfather< no role > Esquires two of his
Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the City and liberty of Westminster bearing a
[..] the 13th day of December last was removed and conveyed from the said Parish
of St. Anne to the said Parish of Teddington as the place of her last legal
Settlement.

Appellants Case.

In or about Augst. 1777 John Seaton< no role > of Brewers Street Esqr . and who has
also a House in the Parish of Teddington had a Servant of the name of Elizh.
Paul
< no role > then living with him in London a County woman of the Paupers The
family going into the Country and Paul being in the Town house by herself a
asked her Master to let the Pauper sleep with her by way of company to which
he consented and she was with Paul in Brewers Street till about the 17th of
noon 1777 when Mr. and Mrs. Seaton being in Town and liking the appearance
of the Pauper (then about 13 years of age) took her down out of charity
to their House in Teddington and Mrs Seaton says without any particular
hiring She continued with them at Teddington till about she 11th
of February following when being clud by her Mistress for neglecting to
do something she ought to have done she desired the Teddington on
Coachman to call for her and of her own accord without any turning
away left her service (if it may be so called) and went to London
And calling aftterwards or Mr. Seatons House in Town he gave her 17 shirt
for the time she had been with than vizt. about 3 Months And
[..] is all the hiring and all the service of the Pauper as Teddington
or in any other Parish with Mr. Seaton as he is ready to prove
From which it is contended the least shadow of a Settlement cannot
be traced upon which to ground such an order of removal as the a
Officers of Saint Anne have obtained Therefore it is hoped the
Court will allow the appeal and discharge the order with full costs
as a check for obtaining orders of removal upon such groundless a
pretences
