At the General Session of the peace of an Lord
the King holden in and for the County of Middx
at Hicks Hall in Saint John Street (by adjt.)
on Thursday the 31st. day of May1781in the 21st.
Year of the reign of our sovereign Lord George the third
King of Great Britain Etc

It appearing to this Cot. by the Rept. of the Commee appd. to carry
into immediate & effectual Execution the Repair of New Prison and
Clerkenwell Bridewell that the alterations and additions ordered by the Cot.
at the last Session to be done and made at New Prison for the
purpose of rendering the Goal more secure commodious and healthy
cannot be carried into Exon unless under the protection of a
Military Guard within the said Prison to prevent the Prisoners
from attempting to Escape and from impeding or destroying the
Works in their progress. and it also appearing to this Court that the
Military Guard non on duly at the said Prison which consists only
of Twelve Men will not be sufficient to perform this service and
to Guard the Rest of the Prison Resolved that the Chairman
be requested to apply to The Right Honourable the Earl of
Hills borough one of his Majestys Principal Secretaries of State
or other proper person to whom such application may or ought to be
