Employ, and as he was going up Bussell Street
on Wednesday Mornig
the 16th.. of this instant May in Order to seek work, after a fit of sickness
Called the Ague and Feavour) A Journey man Baker whom he had
knownby sight and have of times served him with Yeast) when He lived Servt.
to Mr Cox the Brewer for

Names of the said journey man Baker He
[..] Knew not in any other
manner than Set forth, but however on the said Bakers man asking
him the said

to take a Couple of Quarterr Leaves out
of the Basket then Standing by him, & to take the same and leave them
at the Blue Boar
in the Said Street and wait there till became upon
which he set off with a not Loaf upon his Head and

Hughes did also set off With 2 Loaves in Order to Deliver them at the Blue
Boar
according to the Direction of the Said Bakersman - but before he
the said Hughes had got many Yards he was followed by a man who
was a Shoemaker
who Stoped him and accested him and Called him
their Swearing that he saw him the said Hughes Steal the leaves he
had then under his
[..] the Basket and at the Wife of the
arrangue between the Said Shoemaker
and Hughes, the Baker belonging
to the said Basket declared and Swore them Leaves to be his, upon which the
sd Hughes was carried befoe a Majestrate at the Rotation Office in Bloomsbury
from whence he was Committed to the New Prison
Clerkenwell
to take his
Trial at this Sessions for which he now Stands Arraigned at this Bar-
But as He the said Hughes
[..] es himself Innocent as the Urborn Babe
and that he knew No other than that the said Basket from which the said
leaves were taken belonged to the Journey man first set forth who possitively
tould him it was and the said Hughes declares he knew No other
[..] absolutly
thought it to bes without the least grain of suspicious to the Contrary
And the said Hughes as a further proof of his Innocence Setaforth
the following Gentlemen whom he has served in the Occupation of a
servant - first all with Mr. Coorp Brewer In Parkew Lane
. 16 Years as Drayman
then with Mr Church of Hedge Lane
2 Years as stoker
Is Brewer then
with Mr Wilkinson of Balsover Street
Oxford Road
three Years as
Barrell Washer
, and finally that He served His Majesty as a Soldier
in the thirty sixth Regiment of Foot Twenty one Years at Home and
abroad for which he has Now got his
[..] Majesty Pension
