Middlesex


At the General Quarter Session of the Peace of our Lord
the King holden in and for the County of Middlesex at Hicks Hall
in Saint John Street by adjournment on Thursday the thirtieth
day of April in the eighteenth year of the reign of our Sovereign
Lord George the third King of Great Britain Etc Before Sir
John Hawkins< no role > Knight the Reverend Sir George Booth< no role > Baronet
David Wilmot< no role > John Barnfather< no role > Esquires and others their
Fellows Justices of our said Lord the King assigned to keep the
Peace in the County aforesaid and also to hear and determine
divers felonies Trespasses and other misdemeanours committed in the
same

Whereas the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the parish of Saint George
Hanover Square within the Liberty of Westminster in the said County Have at this
present Session Exhibited their Petition and Appeal setting forth That by Virtue of
a Pass Warrant or Order under the Hands and Seals of J. Girdles and W. Blackborow
Esquries two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace (whereof one is of the Quorum) bearing
date the 28th day of February 1778 Mary Meredith< no role > Singlewoman and two female
Bastard Children Namely Sarah< no role > aged 9 years or thereabouts and Jane< no role > aged 7 Years
or thereabouts and also her male Bastard Child namely Robert< no role > aged 7 Months or
thereabouts for Nurture were removed and conveyed from the Liberty of Saffron Hall Hall on
Garden ad Ely rents in the parish of Saint Andrew Holbourn to the parish of Saint
George Hanover Square aforesaid as the place of their last legal Settlement Whereby
the Petitioners conceived themselves aggrieved Now upon hearing the said Appeal
and what hath been alledged by the respective Churchwardens and Overseers of the
poor of the said parishes their Counsel and Witnesses in and concerning the premises
It is ordered that that part of the said Appeal which respects the settlement of Robert
aged seven Months be ad the same is hereby alloweddismissedand that part of the said
Pass Warrant or order of the said two Justices is hereby quashed and It is
further ordered that that part of the said Appeal which respects the settlement
of the said Mary Meredith< no role > and her two female Bastard Children be and the
same is hereby dismissed and that part of the saint pass Warrant or order of the
said two Justices is hereby confirmed and It is further ordered that the
Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the Parish of Saint George Hanover
Square do maintain and provide for the said Mary Meredith< no role > and her said
three Children until they can free themselves from the charge thereof by due
course of Law.
