Be it remembered that this day come before me David
Wilmot
< no role > Esquire one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in
and for the said County, Lucy Connor< no role > of Hackney Road in the
Parish of Saint Mathew Bethnal Green in the County of Middlesex
and John Gray< no role > of the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the
said County Butcher , and severally maketh Oath and first the
said Lucy Connor< no role > saith that in the Month of August last [..]
[..] between eight and nine o' Clock in the Evening she was
taken into Custody by Jonathan Waters< no role > and Henry Britt< no role > (who
were then Runners to Mr. Justice Penleaze) by virtue of a
Warrant granted by the said Justice Penleaze for an Assault
And thereupon the said Waters and Britt, without taking her this
Deponent before the said Justice Penleaze (who lives in the same
Road) or before any other Justice, took and worried her away to,
and confined her in Clerkenwell Prison , till between eight and
nine the next Morning, when the said Henry Britt< no role > and another
Person came and fetched her from Clerkenwell Prison and carried
her to the dwelling House of the said Jonathan Waters< no role > (who is a
Victualler and keeps a Public House appointe Shoreditch Church )
and she was there kept till the Hour of eleven in the same
Morning, when the said Britt and Waters took her this Deponent
to the Justices' Office in Spital Fields and there locked her up in
a Strong Room provided for Felons and went away and last her
and about two hours afterwards returned back, unlocked the
strong Room, and took her this Deponent before the Justice, who
discharged her And [..] this Deponent saith that she verily
[..] believes that the Reason she was apprehended so late in
the Evening, was to make or get Money from her And she this
Deponent saith that the said Jonathan Waters< no role > demanded two
Shillings and six pence of her for a Coach in which he carried
her to Prison from Shoreditch Church , the Fare of which is
but one Shilling or eighteen Pence at most but some of her
