Precincts of His
Majesty's Verge
in the County of
Middlesex }


Informations taken this Eleventh day of February
1764 at the Parish of St: Martin in the Fields
within the Precinct of his Majesty's Verge in the
County of Middlesex , on an Inquisition taken
on View of the Body of Richard Hill< no role > Clerk , lying
Dead in the said Parish Precincts and County.

Walter Nugent< no role > Lieutenant of Marines of King
Street Covent Garden on his Oath saith, that being at
his Lodging there on Wednesday Morning last about
eleven O' Clock Deponent reced a Note from a person whose Name She believes to be Gardner
commonly called Captains Gardnerwhose Christian Notice Deponent does not knowsdesiring
to speak with Deponent at the Piazza Coffee House in
Covent Garden immediately, says that he went to
said Piazza Coffee house, and found in a back Room
there, said Mr. Gardner, Mr. Hill the Deced, and
Lieutenant Thomas, Says that Mr. Hill the Deced
complained of being Affronted by Mr. Gardner, and
required some Publick Acknowledgement thereof,
which Mr. Gardner refused to make, says that Mr.
Gardner likewise complained of being ill treated
by the Deced, Says that Upon Mr. Gardner's refusing
to make any Publick Acknowledgment, the Deced
took out of his Pockets a Brace of Pistols and said,
to Mr. Gardner, here are a Brace of Pistols, both
loaded, do you take one and I will take the other,
and let us decide the Matter here in this Room,
Deponent says that he immediately interposed
and endeavoured to prevail with the Deced to be
quiet, Says that Mr. Gardner did not take the Pistol
and Deponent did not hear him then say any
thing, Says thatMr. Gardner afterwards pulled
art of house
a Brace of Pistols lay upon the
Table in the same Roombelonging to,that were not
loaded and one of them wanted a Flint Says that
the Deced said to Mr. Gardner, I am Astonished
that you are come here with unloaded Pistols
