The Examination of Thomas Poynton< no role > late of the Pari [..]
of Rugeby in the Said County Smith Taken before me One of [..]
Majestys Justices of the Peace for the sd. County this 22d. Day [..]
of August 1763.

Who saith that about five or Six Weeks before Easter as he was [..]
going along Swallow Street about five or Six o' Cock in the Evening he [..]
a Silver Table Spoon which he took along with him to his Master's Mr
John Gardeners< no role > in Brookes News, which Spoon he locked up in his [..]
until about the latter and of Easter week-Saith that he Put sd. [..]
Spoon in his Pockett and he this Examinant ask'd one Peter Hogg< no role > a Serve [..]
to sd. Mr. Gardener to go along with him about Eight or Nine o' Clock in [..]
Evening to Sell sd. Spoon and was told by sd. Hogg that Probably they
might Sell it at one Mr. Gibbs in Bond Street Saith home to his said
to said Gibbs's door and finding it made they returned home to his said
Master Saith that the next Day he went him Self into Holbourn [..]
and offered to Sell sd. Spoon to a Silversmith there who said he Know the
Spoon and Sd. Swear to it and that the Main that Owned it had Keeps [..]
or Eleven more, saith that he told said Silversmith that he hoped he wod
give him Sixpence for Picking it up who told this Examinant that if it
did not Prove the Persons he Suspected it was he should lose the Six pence
and also should be Oblyed to Advertive it which wod. rest three Shillings
and Six pence more And further the Silversmith told this Examinant
that he wod. go to the Man he Expected had lost sd. Spoon and see if it [..]
his-Saith that he this Ext. went into the City to take a place on the
Outside of a Coach to comedown into the Country and on his return to his
said Master's he called again upon said Silversmith who tole him
he had not been with the Man and could not Possibly till the Mondon [..]
following-Saith that he told sd. Silversmith that he might of
take the Spoon and do what he wod. with it for he Shod. give himself
no further trouble about it Saith that sd. Silversmith took
down his Name in Writing and also where he came from and
Several other Particulars, and told this Exts. that if the Spoon was [..]
owned he wod. send this Examinant the worth of it by some of the Coach [..]
And further saith that the sd. Silversmith Lived on the left hand Side
going down Holbourn Hill
