Middlesex


At the General Session of the Peace of our Sovereign Lord the
King holden for the County of Middlesex at Hicks Hall in St. John
Street in the said County (By Adjournment) On Thursday the Twenty
Fifth day of February 1762. In the Second Year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God Kings of Great
Britain Etc. Before Thomas Lane< no role > George Errington< no role >
Merry Teshmaker< no role > Francis Bedwell< no role > Esquires
and others their Fellows Justices of our said Lord the King
Assigned to keep the Peace of our said Lord the King in the County aforesaid
And also to hear and determine diver Felonies Trespasses and other
Misdemeanours Committed in the same County.

Whereas the Churchwardens & Overseers of the Poors of the Parish
of Saint John of Wapping in the County of Middlesex did at this Present
Session begun and holden on Monday the Twenty Second day of this instant
February exhibit their Petition setting forth that by Virtue of an Order
or pass Warrant under the Hands & Seals of two of his Majesty's Justices
of the Peace for the County aforesaid (One being of the Quorum) bearing
date the Eighth day of January last Anne Clarke< no role > Widow as removed from
the Parish of St. Clement Danes to the said Parish of St. John of Wapping
the said Justices thereby Adjudging that to be the place of her last legal
Settlement whereby the Petitioners conceived themselves Agrieved
Which Appeal was duly adjourned unto and appointed to be heard and determind.
on this present Thursday Now upon hearing of Council as well on behalf of
the said Petitioners as on behalf of the Church Wardens and Overseers of the
Poor of the said Parish of St. Clement Danes & having heard what could be
Alledged on either side as well by the said Appellants as by the said Respondts.
and their respective Council & Witnesses in & concerning the Premisses
This Court doth dismiss the said Appeal & doth ratify & confirm the said
Order of the said two Justices & the same is hereby ratified & confirmed
accordingly And doth order that the said Appellants do provide for and
maintain the said Poor Woman until they can free themselves from
the Charge thereof by due Course of Law.
