The Informations of Jane Alcock< no role > Hannah Judd< no role > taken
before me one of his Majestys Justices of the peace for the
said County

Who being severally on Oath say & first this Inft. Jane Alcock< no role > for
herself saith That about Eight O'Clock on Wednesdaylast [..] Night she smelt Fire in her
house & desired a Person now present who calls herself Eleanor Griffth< no role >
to go up stairs with her telling her the house she believed was on
fire when the said Eleanor replyed it was nothing but Straw burning
but on this Inft. going up stairs to the Garrat where the fire was the
smell of the fire & smoke was so Strong that She ran down stairs to
call for help & this Inft. saw no more of the said Eleanor (untill after
the fire was out at the house of the other Informant And this Inft
Saith that about half an hour before the said fire was discovered
she had made the bed in the Garrat where the fire happened
and had set her Candle full three Yards from the Corner of the
Room where the fire began And saith that she is certain that
when she left the Room every thing was safe & no fire could
Proceed from the said Candle And that as soon as she came
down stairs the said Eleanor took up a Candle & went up stairs
but did not stay & very soon after her coming down the Smell
of Fire was discovered And further saith that the fire began in a
Corner of the Garret in a Hamper in which was a [..] ea Bed
Linnen Raggs & other things & saith that the fire burnt one of
the Braccings & it was with Difficulty the house was saved And
further saith that she hath just reason to beleive & doth believe
the said Eleanor did wilfully & Maliciously set the sd. Hamper
on fire with an Intent to rob her & to burn the said House And
this Inf further saith that in the one Pair of Stairs Room this
Inft. had a Trunk in which she usually kept her money And
that about Two Days after the Queen's Arrival she happened
to leave the Key of her sd Trunk upon a Table that she soon
after found the said Key but Missed Twenty Guineas out of
[..] Forty Pounds contained in the said Trunk which she hath
just Reason to suspect to be taken out by the said Eleanor as the
day before this Inft. lost the said Money the said Eleanor borrow'd
half a Guine [..] of this Inft & the Day after she had lost the Money
the said Eleanor paid her the sd. half Guinea & Immediately
