, taken before
me this 13th. Day of October 1761
Who being on Oath says that as he was setting
with his acquaintance Mr. George Jolliff< no role >
at the Ben: Johnsons
head a Publick House
in Russell Street
St. Martin in the Fields
on Saturday Night last a young Woman a Strainger to this
Informant sitting on hisberight hand, a Person now present
who calls himself Stephen Dane< no role >
came up to him & asked
him what Business he had with that Woman and taking her
by the hand insisted that she should leave their Company
& come into his, says that said Young Woman refused to go
with said Dane, says that said Dane then addressed himself
to this Informt. and said Mr. Jolliff & told them that if
they went out of the House with that Woman they Shou'd well Ttrashed & that he wou'd
wring his Nose Off in particular, says that the Young
Woman soon afterwards escaped over the Table & went
out says they then sat still when Mr. Jolliff got up
and went to the door and on this Informant's endeavouring
to follow him said Mr. Dean got up from his Seat seized
this Informt. by the Collar and told him he shou'd not go out
says that Mr. Jolliff then returned and that circumstances
more as mentioned in said Mr. Jolliff's Information says
that he saw a Person now present who calls himself John
Priestly< no role >
in Company with the sd Dane at that time but that
he rather appeared to be a Peace Maker
