Bazil Fielding Palmer< no role > of the parish of Saint
Sephulcar London Gentleman And John Smith< no role > late of
Brentford Marriner the Defendant above named Each
Severally Make Oath and Sayt And first this Deponent
Bazil Fielding Palmer Maketh oath That Ann Wood< no role >
of Mercer Street Long Acre in the County of Middlesex Widow
and Mary Jones< no role > of the same place Widow are Material
Evidence for the said Defendant John Smith< no role > on both the
Indictments preferred by the prosecutors above named
And that he this Deponent did on Tuesday the Twenty First day
of October Instant Make Diligent Inquiry after the above
namedDefendant Ann Wood< no role > of Mercer Street of John
Waldgrove
< no role > at the last or present place of abode of the said
Ann Wood< no role > And was then and there Informed by the said John
Waldgrove
< no role > and Several other persons in the Neighbourhood
that the said Ann Wood< no role > was lately gone to Reading in Berkshire
and that she was not Expected in London till Sunday next
And this Deponent Further Saith that he did also at the same
time Make Diligent Inquiry after Mary Jones< no role > of the same
places of the said John Waldgrave< no role > and was also at the same
time Informed by the said John Waldgrove< no role > that the said Mary
Jones
< no role > was also gone to Reading in Berkshire in Company
with the said Ann Wood< no role > And that they the said Ann Wood< no role >
and Mary Jones< no role > were both Expected in Town on Sunday
next at their Appartments in Mercer Street aforesaid And
this Deponent Further Saith that the said Ann Wood< no role > and Mary
Jones
< no role > are both as this Deponent verily believes Material
Evidence for the said John Smith< no role > and without where Testimony
the said John Smith< no role > Cannot safely take his Tryal on the
above Indictments And this Deponent John Smith< no role > For himself
Saith that the above named Ann Wood< no role > and Mary Jones< no role > are
Both of them Very Material Evidence on the above
prosecutions for this Deponent and that this Deponent has
Sent in order to Subpeana them the said Ann Wood< no role > and
Mary Jones< no role > but Cannot find them they being gone into the
Country as this Deponent has been Informed and verily believes
and without where Testimony this Deponent Cannot Safely
take his Tryal on the above Indictments preferred against
him by the above Named prosecutors
