Deft since her Comittmt. made Several accompts to be bailed on all which occasions
Sheprevailed on one Mrs. Knible a Rotaion of her husbands to advance a good Deal
of money for her & pledge her Credit for more & to let her have Several of her Cloaths

Monday 8th. Feb: instant Deft desired Mrs: Knible at parting to bid her Mother
Mrs. Tannat come to her that very afternoon for that She wanted very much to Speak
to her

Accordingly Mrs. Tannat went to Newgate & took an Old friend of her's one
Mrs: Merchant with her thinking that Deft wanted to give her back some of her
Daughters things

When they came Deft seem'd over joy'd & hold Mrs. Tannat she wanted to Speak
with her abord an affair of great Consequence And upon Mrs. Tannats saying that
Mrs: Merchant was an Intimate friend of her's Deft desired them to walk into a
Little room with her

There She told them that there was only Warwick to Swear against her &
that his Evidence would not be admitted that it was in their power to Save her lifes
that as soon as She was discharged She would not only reply Mrs: Knible but
make the whole family easy in their circumstances they should have 2 or £300 & she
would take Mrs: Tannat's other Daughter to France where her own Daur was
All She desired of them was only to Say that She was in their Company all the
9th. Nov: 1739 & then conceived the Several Particulars of the story

Mrs: Tannat said what must I say all this before the Justices
Yes. Says She You must Swear it

Tannat & Merchant both seeming surprized at this Says She Cant
You Swear to Save a Woman's life

They desired time to consider & agreed to give her an answer in a day
or two

Tannat & Merchant came directly to the City Sol & told him the Defts
attempt The sol approved of their honesty in refusing Defts offer & in
disclosing it to him & advised them to feign their being consenting to it in
order to prevent Defts applying to others who might be less Strapulous & also
to get their Instruccons from Deft in writing

Tannat & Merchant did as they were directed & under pretense of
a Short Memory got Deft to Send them their Instruccons in writing

Betty humble Defts Maid who acted in the Capacity of her attorney & Clerk
brought the Instruccons to Tannot & shewed her Severall more for other Witnesses
and told her that Serjt: Hayward had been appriged of what the Witnesses were to Say
and had declared that if the Witnesses did come up to it Deft must be acquitted

Tannat afterwards went to Deft & Deft asked her if she had got the lesson
She sent her by Betty Humble by heart

A few days ago Betty Humble brought Defts Attorney to Tannat's house
