And James Freno< no role > good and lawfull men of the said County of Middx then
and there Sworn and charged to Inquire for our said Lord the King for the
Body of the said County It is presented in manner and form as followeth
That is to say Middlesex to witt The Jurow for our Lord the King upon
their Oaths present That Edward Bygrave< no role > late of the parish of Kensington
in the County of Middlesex Labourer not having the fear of God before
his Eyes but being moved and Seduced by the Instigation of the Devil and
falsely unlawfully and unjustly contriving and intending greatly to
injure One William Frankland< no role > of London Brewer in his good name
and reputation and to came the said William Frankland< no role > to be imprisoned
for a Felony on the ninth day of November in the year of our Lord One
thousand seven hundred and thirty nine at the parish of Kensington
in the County aforesaid came before William Morice< no role > Esquire then one
of the Justices of our said Lord the King Assigned to keep the peace of
our said Lord the King in the County aforesaid And also to hear and
determine diverse felonies Trespasses and other misdemeanours committed
in the said County And the said Edward Bygrave< no role > then and there Voluntary
corrupthy deceitfully and unlawfully Assumed personated and took upon
himself the name And person of one John Spruce< no role > of the parish of Aynoe
on the Hill in the County of Northampton Salesman before the said William
Morice and in the Name and place of the said John Spurce And as if he
the said Edward Bygrave< no role > had really been the true person of the said John
Spurce on the said Ninth day of November in the Year aforesaid at
Kensington aforesaid took his Corporal Oath upon the Holy Golpell of
God before the said William Morice (the said William Morice then and there
to witt in the said parish of Kensington having sufficient power and Authority
to Administer in the said Oath in that behalf to the said Edward Bygrave< no role > and
did then in the said parish last mentioned voluntarily falsely malitiously
corruptly and deceitfully upon his Oath aforesaid Say depose Swear and in
writing Affirm That a person then in Custody in his Majestys Goal of
Newgate in the County of Middlesex who went by the name of William
Franklyn
< no role > and by the Nickname of Rusty Dick (meaning thereby the abovenamed
William Frankland< no role > ) which said William Frankland< no role > on the said Ninthday
of November in the year aforesaid and long before and afterwards was a
