Term 1730 before [..] Ch Justice [..] and [..]
Foe was due in yt behalfBut it was Knt. Nedless to try by an Issue who at Law what Foe
were due for actually marking & Shaking an Weight a Measures in re [..] ard the And
StatSince that time the Cl of the market hath though fit (by himself or Depty) to hold his Court as
(he calls them) in divers parts of this County within the Verge of the Kings Houshold
and to sumonthePersons [..] to bring or send all their Weights & Measuresin Trade to at(not examin'd for that
Court) Whether Seal'd or not Seald [..] Such place & line as in the said Sumons are menconed for ye purpose
And at the Cotton of every such Sumons there is inserted a Threatening Advertisemt a That such Persons
"whose Weights & Measures have not been Sealed by the said Clerk of the Market either at
"some preceding Court which he had holden or at his Office in High Holborn would for such
"Neglect befind Pursuant to several Lawsnowin force. In which [..] Threatening advertisemt it is very observable yt he has not excepted Weight or measures marked by mayors Chief Officers Etc of Cities Boroughs Etc
there [..] empowered by slat 7. H. 7 chap 4. [..] 226:2 [..] 8 - 11& 12 to 3ch. [..]
One of these Sumons was sent to Mr Wm Cole< no role > named in the Indictmt (who keeps an Alehouse in White chappell ) to bring or send his weight
& Measures to the Court house in White chappell on the day menconed in the Indictmt at which
time & place Mr Cole attended and brought with him the several measures menconed in the
Indictmt (being 14 in Number) And the Deft Refitt being then & there prsent and
acting as, & declaring himself to be, the Servt of the sd Clerk of the markett . look
the said 14 potts and marked them with the Stamp used by sd Cl of the markt. For
which he the said Dept Refitt demanded & wed 14d. (which is a penny for marking
each pot) for & as a Fee for examining marking & Sealing the same
