On the 16th: day of June last , as Richard Overs< no role > was rideing or [..]
an Old blind horse gently up the hill heading from Hanwall
bridge in the comon highway to Ealing , he was mett by John
Merritt
< no role > Esqr . who rid downe the hill almost full opeed &
brush agt him (he endeavouring to turne out of their
way but could not time enough)& after rideing some yards
the sd me: merritt< no role > turne againe & rid after him &
[..] him from off his horse & tore his Shirt vestry parish
[..] by who askeing why he used him soe, he at first
would give noe reason but said he was his prisoner
& soe seized & deteyned him in his custody in the highway
above an hour, and at last declared that the said Richd
Overs
< no role > was a highwayman, & he sent for a Constable
& charged him with the said Overs< no role > , but he then not
alleadging any Crime agst. him, he refused to take him
into custody, notwithstanding wth: Mr. Merritt still
deteryned him as his prisoner, & Overs to procure his
Liberty was oblidged to charge the Constable with him
& he was carryed before Mr Justice St: Loe who bound
him over to appear at the next Sessions, and being
ask' before the Justice why he used the sd. Overs in
that manner he said because he rid agt: him in
the highway

Wee whose names are here unto Subscribed are ready to
testify upon Oath (when required) the trueth of what
above written and that the said Richard Overs< no role >
[..] not the least provocation or offrent to the [..] Mr
Merritt whereby & deserve such treatment As Wittness
our hands this 4: day of July 1719 :
