Thomas Dethick< no role > of Poplar in the Parish of Stepney
& County of Middlx Gent Maketh Oath That he this
Depont: went by Order of the Churchwarden & Overseers
of the poore of Poplar in the Parish of Stepney aforesaid
to present the book of poores rate made in the Town house
in the Hamblet of Poplar aforesd: & signed first by the
Churchwarden, & other Officers & Severall of ye Inhabitance
of the Sd: Hamblet, and afterwards confirmed by Mr.
Justice Coalthurst. to Mr. Justice West, who Ordered this
Depont: to leave the same at his house. which the next day
this Depont: delivered into his own hand, who answered
this Depont: that he would Puse the same & Signe and
confirme the same, some time after this Depont: wated
on him againe to request the book acquainting him that
the churchwarden had paid three Months pay & that an
other payment was comeing on being verry uneasy by being
So much out of Packett for ye poore & for want of ye book
the Overseers could not make any Collections. Whereupon
he promised this Depont: to returne ye same on Saterday
following (which he accordingly did) but not signed by
him as he had pmised whereupon on Tuesday following
this Depont: went again & desired the Sd. Mr. Justice West
to signe the same to prevent somuch trouble to the Officers
which he refused to doe, then this Depont: acquainted him
to prevent any Objection Mr. Justice Coalthurst would wait
an him and That this Depont: would fetch the Officers of the Edwell
whereupon he desired to be excused who had declared to
this Depont: he only acted with Mr: Justice Jones which
proces verry if convenient and prejuditial to the said
Hamblet.
