Upon Complaint made unto this Court by John Venner< no role > Esqr . one of his
Majesties Justices of the Peace for this County that the High Street in
New Brentford in the said County is very much clogged and filled
up with dirt filth & Soyle to the great annoyance of Passengers passing
through the same upon their lawfull occasions, And that by an Act of
Parliament made in the first year of the reign of his present Majesties King
George, Intituled An Act for repairing the highways more effectually The
Justices of the Peace in their Generall or Quarter Sessions are impowered
where they Judge it necessary to appoint a Scavenger or Scavengers for
cleansing the Streets in any Markett Town, and to make such Assessment
or Assessments for cleansing the same as they shall think fit for defraying
the Charges thereof not exceeding Six pence in the Pound in one year to
be Levyed and Collected in such manner as is thereby directed, It is
thought fit and Ordered by this Court that the Cryer of that Court doe
forthwith serve the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of New
Brentford aforesaid and the Surveyors of the Highways there
with a Copy of this Order and that the said Church Wardens
Overseers of the Poor and Surveyors of the Highways doe attend
his Majesties Justices of the Peace for this County at the next
Generall Sessions of the Peace to be held for the said County on
Tuesdaymorningin the same Sessions at Ten of the Clock in
the forenoon to shew cause why one or more Scavengers should
not be appointed for cleansing of the High Street in New Brentford
aforesaid and an Assessment made for defraying the charges thereof
according to the direction of the said Act.
