Justices of Peace for ye County of Middx she
20th day of November And Dui 1699

This Depont. doth declare yt about Six Week or Two
months agoe one Capt . Charles Newy< no role > by Sevll. persuasive
insinuations & pron [..] ife, of a reward of Ten Guine as
did persuade this Depont. to make an Affidavit (before
Tho: Ellis< no role > Esqr ) that one Mrs Margarett Newy< no role > did
Counter feit ye Curran. Coyn of this Kingdome wth Affidavit
this Depont. did accordingly make before p said Tho Ellis< no role >
Esqr (viz) yt in or about ye middle of December last
pass she the said Margt. Newy did Counter feit eight or
nine half Crowns in ye Likenesse of ye Currant Coyn
of this Kingdome And further this Depont. doth declare
upon his Oath yt the Affidavit wch he then made
being Dated ye 24th day of October 1699 [..] was
accd is utterly false scandalous & Malicious & yt
he did never see or know yt yesaid Margt. Newy to
Coyn any mony whatsoever or any thing like it
& yt ye reason why he made ye said Affidavit was
in hopes of ye reward aforesaid promised him by ye
said Charles Newy< no role > and Further this Depont. Doth
declard ye he did personate & went by ye name of
John Hambrill< no role > by means whereof he did obtain
a Warrt. From Sr Robt. Jefferys< no role > Knt . against the
said Margt. Newy for ye Crime aforesaid all which
was done by he persuasions of Capt. Charles Newy
aforesaid wch said Charles Newy< no role > has since maintans
this Depont. in his Majties Goal of Newgate & that he
has received ye Saml of about forty two Shillings
from ye said Newy since he has been confin'd in the
said Goal.
