The humble Petition of his Majestys Justices of the Peace
for the County of Middlesex
together with the Grand
Jury in Quarter Sessions Assembled
Humbly Sheweth
Peticon to the honble
the House of Comons
on the occasion of the
mismannagemt. of
the late Directors
of the South Sea
Company,
That it is with the greatest Concern that your Petitions
have observed the many Misfortunes and Calamityes that
have of late Befell the Nation in General, and many
Inhabitants of this County in particular by the
mismanagement, A varice, and Corruption of the late
Directors of the South Sea Company, their Aiders,
Abottors and Confederates whereby the Trade and
Credit of this Kingdom has been, in the greatest Degree
affected
This with the utmost Gratitude We acknowledge the
Real and Unwearyed Application of this Honble. House
in unravelling the Wiles and Artifices by which So
many unhappy People have been imposed upon, and
Defrauded of their Substance, and your Goodness in
your Endeavours to Provide some Relief out of the
Estates of these who have Sacrificed the Welfare of
their Country to their own Private Ends
It is a Sensible Affliction to your Petitioners to
find that one of the Greatest Advantages proposed by
the late Scheme of obtaining a Considerable Sume
towards discharging the Publick Debts Seems now
in consistent with the Methods that may be taken for
retrieving Credit and with the Relief of the Unhappy
Sufferers in this great Calamity.

Submission wish and hope that such Effectual
Measures may be taken by this Honoble.
House as will Encourage Trade and Settle
Credit on a Sure and Solid Foundation,
Which alone can Extricate us out of our
present Difficultyes.
