November 1796.
By adjournment same Day.
A Letter from Mr.. Janes the Clerk to the Trustees
of the Brentford
Turnpike being laid before this Court
and Read as follows Vizt.
Inner Temple
23d. Novr. 1796.
Sir
The Surveyor of the Brentford
Turnpike
Road, having at a Board of Trustees that was held on
Saturday the 12th. of this Instt. November Reported that
the Footway of Brentford Bridge
had given way and
that in consequence he had procured a Carpenter
and
Builder in the Neighbourhood to look at it with him,
when they discovered that several of the Joists were
broke and many others much decayed whereby that part
of the Bridge
was very likely to fall unless some thing
was done speedily to prevent it - I trouble you with this
therefore agreeable to an Order of that Board to request
that you will lay the above matter before the Magistrates
at their next Sessions, and desire them to give immediate
directions to their Surveyor to put the Order which was
long ago made for the repair of the said Bridge into
immediate Execution it being then postpond on a
supposition that the Surveyor of the Grand Junction
Canals proposals for alterations to be made thereto might
take place but which has long since been given up
I am
Sir
Your very humble Servant
Jno. Janes.
- Clk
of the Brentford
Turnpike trust.
