The following Petition of Robert Mac Intosh the Contractor for
performing the Slaters Work at the New House of Correction being laid
before the Court and read Vizt.

"The Worshipful Justices of the Peace for the County of Middlesex

The Humble Petition of Robt. Mc Intosh< no role > who
Slated Cold Bath fields House of Correction "

Most Humbly Sheweth.

That Your Petitioner having Contracted to perform all the
Slating at said Building with best Westmorland Slates< no role > at 43 P Square
the Price of Slate at that time was 60sh. pr Ton but in July 1793 they
rose to three Guineas & a half pr Ton, a Cargo at that time arrived for
me at the above price, On which Account I waited on Mr Rogers to inform
him that it would run me without some addition was made to the
former price, he desired me to take off the Slates, proceed with my Contract
and petition the Board which I did in 93 who was pleased to say they
would take it into consideration - your Petitioner humbly begs that the
Worshipful Board of Justices will take this into their wise and judicious
consideration and grant your Petitioner an Addition of Five Shillings pr sqr.
for Work perform'd since the rise of Slates.

Your Petitioner will as in duty bound ever pray
16th. April 1795.

Westmoreland Slating done at the House of Correction since the rise of
Slates.

Resolved that the said Petition be referred to the said last
mentioned Committee and that they do report their Opinion thereon to
the Court.
