same manner, and the Walls Floor Etc scoured and scraped. Then
the Room to be well dried with a Brazier, while the Window Etc next
the external Air is kept open, and all others shut; after which a little
Camphire is to be carried about in the room, Curving in a Fire Shovel.

It is by express Desire of the Committee appointed to Superintend the
Gaol, that the above be religiously put in force, and that every Man
before he enters a clean Ward, be well washed with warn Soap suds
and have clean Clothers and Bedding.

"N.B. It is desired one of these be posted in each Ward of the Prison.
"January 28th. 1784".

and the said Papers being read It is Ordered that the Clerk
of the Peace do write to William Shipley< no role > Esqr . informing him that
the said Letters had been laid before His Majestys Justices of the
Peace for this County who thank him for the communication.

Motion for the
Appointmt. of a
Surveyor for buil-
-ding a House of
Correction for the
County}

The Report of the Committee appointed in February
Session last to take into consideration the Building a New House
of Correction on a Scale adapted to the Ground purchased of the
Quakers together with the Scite of the present House of Correction
and to prepare a Plan or Plans for that purpose which was presented
in May Session last and entered among the proceedings of the Court
at that Session being called for and read A Motion was now
made that the Court do proceed to the appointment of a Surveyor
for the building a House of Correction for this County.

In the Course of the debate a Letter and a Roll of Paper
was delivered into the Court and the said Letter was read and is
as follows Vizt.

"Hon'd Sir

"Understanding that the Gentlemen
Magistrates for the County of Middlesex have determined to
build a New Bridewell for the said County I beg leave to lay before
you & the Gentlemen a Plan for that Building which I hope the
Gentlemen will do me the honour to consider. And as it
appears evident that the Ground already purchased is
