Q How long has he been in the Office?

A Twenty Years

A I would do it at less than the present Salary

A ten pounds a year less

Q Whether he would not do it for still less than 10 pounds a year?

A I would do it for less rather than not have it

The Candidates were now ordered to withdraw and being withdrawn
A Motion was made that the Books kept by the Collector of the Tolls of
the Haymarket for the last year be produced to the Court now here-agreed to
and the said Books were soon after produced and laid before the Court
A Motion was made that a certain Sum be now determined on as a
Salary to be allowed to the Collector of the Tolls of the Haymarket
Agreed to.

A Report from the Committee of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County
of Middlesex appointed to oppose all attempts in Parliament that may affect the
Interest of this County in the St James Haymarket or deprive the Justices of their
Controul which for the benefit of the public they have over the same and to good such
orders as may be necessary to enforce the Laws relative thereof and to pursue the Speediest
and most effectual Methods to promote and secure the Interest of the County therein and
also to repave so much of the Haymarket within the Jurisdiction of the Justices as is described

[..] site Workmen for the
performance of the same and
[..] all other matters and
[..] igs in the execution thereof
[..] shall be fit and necessary
[..] ing called for & read.

Moved that the Salary be fifty pounds a Year

after debate the following amendment was proposed and moved vizt
That the Word Fifty do not stand part of the motion and the question
being put upon the amendment it passed in the negative It was then
moved that the Word seventy be inserted in the place of the word Fifty
and immediately afterwards the subsequent amendment was proposed
and moved vizt that the following Words to be added after the word Year
in the original motion vizt "the Person who has done the Duty for twenty
years as Deputy to General Satisfaction having offered to execute the
Office for sixty pounds a year or less" do stand part of the motion.
The Question being put upon this last amendment It passed in the negative
