The Examination of William Athill< no role >
taken on Oath before me One of His Majesty's
Justices of the Peace in and for the said County
this 8th. day of March 1787 .

Who on his Oath saith that about Six Months ago in the
Morning at about Nine oClock one Richard Stephens< no role > now Executed
came to this Examinants House in Black Eagle Street Spitalfields
and came up Stairs to Examinant who was in bed and [..] told
him he had got some property Namely Muslins, Irish Etc which
he had got to sell and if he would meet him the said Richd. Stephens< no role >
at one Mr. Lingleys in Goswell Street at Seven oClock that
Evening Examinant Should see it That Examinant went there
at the time mentioned and saw the said Richd. Stephens< no role > in Company
with Henry Fossett< no role > and Two others who they called by the names of
George Tucker< no role > and Thomas Taylor< no role > and that the said George Tucker< no role >
and Thomas Taylor< no role > were Perfect Strangers to him this Examinant
That the said Four mentioned Persons desired Examinant to Stay
until he should he sent For that they then went away and
this Examinant went into the House and called for some Brandy
and Water that in a Short time the Person [..] whom they
called Geo. Tucker returned and knocked at the Window desiring
this Examinant to come with him which he did and went with
him to a place called Ratcliff Lare where he again saw the
said Richard Stephens< no role > Henry Fossett< no role > and the Person who was called by
the Name of Thomas Taylor< no role > with a Bag [..] containing
a Quantity of Muslins [..]
which Examinant bought by the Yard Examt. was then Asked
if he wouldbybuy some Irish, Handkerchiefs and Prints who
said Yes as he had bought one thing he would buy the other
That the said Richard Stephens< no role > Henry Fossett< no role > and Thomas Taylor< no role > then
went away and left Examt. with the said George Tucker< no role > that
in about a quarter of an hour they returned with another bag containing
the Irish, Handkerchiefs and Prints which Examt. also bought
and believes the amount of the whole two Parcels came to about
Twenty Five Pounds but did not pay for it at that time not
having the money with him That the said Richard Stephens< no role >
went for a Coach in order to take the Goods away and when
he returned with one the two bags were [..] taken to the Coach
