Mr. T Boddington came to the Counting House Mr. Robinson
shewed him the two letters & bill & informed him the answer given
to the Notary Mr. Boddington after perusal referred to several
letters of Mr. Gordon's, received prior to this affair, & on comparing the
signature with that to the bill & letter in question, he was confirmed
in his opinion that the bill should not be accepted, & in consequence
called on Mr. Forster the Notary, & related to him the reasons for
not accepting the bill, at same time requested him in case he
Protested the bill, to insert the answer, as he should receive in
writing, in consequence of Mr. Forsters promising to do so, Mr B
wrote an answer, which Mr. Robinson copied & delivered the same
afternoon to Mr. Forster's Clerk,

Janry 16th about 1 O'Clock, the same person who had
brought the first bill, came to the Counting House & presented
another bill of same sett to Mr. Bettsworth, the same being
accepted, desiring to know if that was the acceptance of Messrs.
B's being informed in the Negative he seemed much alarmed
& said he had advanced 10 Guineas on it, - the Forgery being
a clear matter, he begged Mr Bettsworth< no role > would assist him
to apprehend the delinquint which was immediately done
