Brief for [..] Respondents

Petition states that by virtue of an Order or Pass Warrant under the Hands and Seals of two
of his Majesty< no role > 's Justicae of the Peace for the City of London and Liberties thereof one being of the Quorum
bearing Date the 31st Day of January last Jane< no role > the Widow of Robert Walls< no role > was removed and conveyed
from and out of the Respondents Parish to that of the Appellants as the Place of her last legal
Settlement, and that Appellant's [..] uceiving themselves aggrieved appealed against the same, and
the Court at the Request of the Petitioner's Ordered that the benefit of the said appeal be saved; and
that the Hearing and Determination thereof be adjourned to the present Sessions, and that due Notice
thereof shod. be given to the Respondents.

The [..] Walls was removed to the Appellant's Parish as the Place of her Maiden
[..] having ever heard where her late Husbands Settlement was, and in
[..] the Pass Warrant was made before the Lord Mayor< no role > and
[..] That about twelve Years ago and whilst a single Woman the
[..] ut with one Knowles a Waterman in the Appellant's Parish and cousd.
[..] of a Year.

Soon after the Pauper was passed to the Appellant's Parish they gave Notice of an Appeal, and
Mr. Green their Solicitor persuaded the Respondents that as knowles the Master with whom the Pauper
lived servant, was only a Lodger in the Appellants Parish, and therefor not rated to the Poor at the
time of such service, she consequently cod. not gain a Settlement by that Servitude

The Respondents confiding in the Principles of Law said down by Mr. Green agreed to take
back the Pauper, who thereupon returned to their Workhouse , after which they represented the Matter
to their our solicitor who conceived that Mr.Green had misled them, advised them to let the
Pauper return to the Appellant's as there had been no application to the Court of Quarter Session
reversing the Order of the Magistrates, and she was for that purpose accordingly discharged
at of Respondents Workhouse , and the Appellant's thereupon preferred the Petition at the last Session
and served Respondents. Sollr. with a Copy of the Order of Adjournment only on Saturday last

Upon being served with the Order of Adjournment, Notice was given to Appellant's Sollr. to produce the Pauper when
he says never returned to the Appellant's after Respondents agreed to take her back

The Respondents therefore have not other Proof in support of the Order than the Pauper Examination
before the Magistrates, which if Appellant's refuse to admit being reced. Please To move for its skindg.
