John Coxon< no role > for an Assault on the Presn
of Jane Coxon< no role > his Wife

Henry Claxton< no role > of Essex Street in the Strand Tallow Chandler
and Thomas Brooks< no role > of Chick Lane West Smithfield Constable Make Oath
and say And first this Deponent Henry Claxton for herself sheth that
some time in June last he was bound in Recognizance for the personal
appearance of the above named John Coxon at Guildhall London in September
Session last to answer for Assaulting Jane Coxon his Wife And this Deponent
Saith that the reason he became bound for the said John Coxons Appearance was
the said Jane his Wife had several times been relieved by this Deponent as
poor persons belonging to the parish of Saint Clement Danes of which parish
this Deponent was one of the Overseers And this Deponent Saith that the said
John Coxon Applied to this Deponent and the Churchwardens and Overseers and
informed therein that they had no occasion to relieve his Wife any more for that
he would maintain her or to that effect upon which this Defening and the other
Overseers and Churchwardens referred to relieve her any more for which reason and
no other this Deponent believes the said Jane caused the said John Coxon to be
Apprehended by a Warrant for Assaulting her therefore this Deponent and in
hopes to Accomodate the difference between them because Bail for the said John
who Absconded himself and neglected to Appear at the said Session according to the
Condition of this Deponent Recognizance And this Deponent Saith that he hath
since used his utmost endeavours to cause the said John Coxon to be Apprehended
And that he was a short time after the last Session Apprehended for the said Assault
and was Imprisoned in New prison for the same but by some means or other this
Deponent has been informed that the said John Coxon hath made his Escape And
this Deponent Thomas Brooks for himself Saith that afternoon belonging to the
Keeper of New Prison delivered the said John Coxon unto this Deponents Custody
And that this Deponent conveyed him to Guildhall London in order that he might
be examined and Committed for the said Assault [..] that the said John Coxon
whilst there escaped out of this Deponents Custody and has Absconded since which
time both these Deponents, [..] day last they have used their endeavour
became the said John Coxon John again Apprehended for the said Assault but had not
been able so do he And further Say that they were not consenting to his Escaping
at Guildhall but that the same was much against the Will of these deponents.
