Smith for Forgery

Abraham Judah< no role > the Defendant abovenamed and George Wright< no role > of
Aldermanbury London Carpenter each speaking for himself severally
make Oath as follows and first this Deponent Abraham Judah< no role >
for himself saith that the Prosecutor Francis Smith< no role > and this Deponent
[..] having been very intimate together in the year One thousand seven hundred and
sixty One the said Francis Smith< no role > then, applied to and requested this
Deponent to borrow some Notes of hand for him the said Francis Smith< no role >
to raise money thereon And this Deponent saith he was prevailed
on by the said Francis Smith< no role > to borrow three Promissory Notes all dated the
twentieth Day of February one thousand seven hundred and sixty One &
drawn by Thomas Hall< no role > for One hundred pounds each and payable at
two months three months and four months after the date thereof and
which notes the other Deponent George Wright< no role > at the instance and
request of this Deponent Indorsed and this Deponent delivered the same
to the said Smith who never either paid or gave this Deponent any
Consideration whatever for the same and this Deponent Abraham
Judah
< no role > further saith that several suits and Disputes arising between
this Deponent and the said Smith the said Francis Smith< no role > and this
Deponent becoming Copartners together in March One thousand
seven hundred and sixty One and he the said Smith being Indebted to
this Deponent in Two thousand Pounds and upwards if an account
was fairly stated and ballanced between him and this Deponent as
he verily believes and he the said Smith having in the month of April
last Indicted this Deponent for fraudulently Obtaining from him
Three hundred pounds on the said notes under false pretences this
Deponent Traversed the said Indictment and this Deponent further
saith that a few days ago this Deponent was taken up on the
Complaint of the said Francis Smith< no role > on a Warrant from Justice
Fielding and there charged by the said Smith with Forging an
Indorsement to a Promissory Note which Complaint the said Justice &
having heard and Examined intothe samewith great Exactness
after hearing both parties thought proper to discharge the said
Complaint as false and Groundless since which the said Francis Smith< no role >
