in their General Quarter Session assembled.
The humble Petition of Thomas Woodman< no role >
the Under keeper
of the Prison called the
Poultry Compter
.
Sheweth
That Your petitioner rents in the parish of Saint Mildred
in the Poultry
London the Gaol commonly Called the Poultry Compter
and the House wherein Your petitioner dwells and pays the Yearly
Sum of Eighty four pounds for the wholes
That the said Goal and the Dwelling House before the
late Act of Parliament to prevent the Sale of Spirituous Liquors in
Goals were rented at the Sum of £140 P Annum but by Reason
of that Act the said Goal and Dwelling House become of less Value,
and the Land lord, thoroughly sensible of it, reduced the Rent to
£84, and which is the full, if not more than the, Value of it.
That Your Petitioner is in Respect of the said Goal
and Dwelling House overrated in and by the last Rate and
Assessment made for the Relief of the Poor of the said Parish.
Your Petitioner therefore humbly appeals
against the said Rate and Assessment and
prays such Relief in the premisses as to your
Lordship shall seem meet
