Sir
By the Vagrant Act of the 17th: of his present Majesty all Vagrants are to
be conveyed to the Place of their last legal Settlement or if that can't be found to the
Place of their Birth in the next direct Way to such their places of Settlement or
Birth, And it appearing to the Justices of the Peace for the County of Hertford
at a General Quarter Session of the Peace held by Adjournment for the said
County on the 25th. of January last that several Vagrants passed from the
City of London
and County of Middlesex
to the Countys of Essex
Suffolk
&
Norfolk
are sent to the Parish of Chesthunt
in the said County of Hertford
to be thence conveyed on to their several Places of Settlement who ought
to be sent the White Chappel
and West Ham Road that being the
next direct Way to the said Countys of Essex Suffolk and Norfolk whereby
the County of Hertford is put to a greater Expence in passing & conveying
Vagrants than it ought to bear; I am therefore directed by the said
Court to desire you to acquaint the Justices of the City of London
with
the above Matters that this Extraordinary Expence to the County
of Hertford
may be prevented for the future, I am
