Taken upon Oath this
saith
7th day of
September 1749
.
And first this Informant upon his Oath Saith that Sometime age he resided
at Birmingham
where one Thomas Morris< no role >
then likewise dwell and now is a prisoner in
Newgate
And Saith that Sometime about the Month of January last the said Thomas [..]
Met this Information this City and knowing that he this Informant got his living by Selling
of Cutlery Wares, told him he was a Guilder and that he had Occasion for a person to Expence to
Sale such goods as he the said Thomas Morris< no role >
dealt in and that he would Allow this Informant
four Shillings in the Pound for the Goods he should so dispose of for his Use
And Saith that about the beginning of the Month of April last the said Morris
Came to this Informants House (who then lived in Black house Yard
in Gravel Lane
Houndsditch
)
sand desired to lodge with their Informant that Night which he did and Continued so to do till the
Mr. Lay after Midsummer day last, And Saith that during that time the said Morris used to
[..] Kala house he pretended to have in full Rents near Golden Lane
by Old Street
in the
Parish of Saint Lukes
in the County of Middlesex
That this Informant having lent the said Thomas Morris< no role >
Money he reputed him to
repay the Same Whereupon the said Morris gave him Six Shillings in half pence in part of
payment of the said Debt, And Saith that their Informant going to one of his Tradesman
on London Bridge
with whom he death to make payment of the said half pence, the said person
perceiving them to be bad told their Informant if he had not known him he would have Caused
him to be Apprehended for Uttering Counterfeit Money and refused to receive the same.
And Saith that upon the said half pennys being returned to their Informant he
went to the House of the said Thomas Morriss< no role >
Scituate in Fallert Rents
aforesaid
where he found the said Thomas Morris< no role >
at [..] and at the
same time Observed in the Window of the Room he was then at work in large Quantity by
Counterfeit half pence And Saith that the said Thomas Morris< no role >
Offer'd this Informant them
Pennyworth of such Counterfeit Money if he wod. undertake to put and offer him, which he replied
And Lastly their Informant Saith that the said Morris being Apprehended
for Straling & Silver Tankards and Committed to Newgate
his Lodging was
Searched and on Searching a Lodging he had in petticoat Lane
at one
Mr. Lixons these was found a Now that was built for the use of sd. Morris
and a few Counterfeit half pence & in this Informants house where St. Morris Lodag'd a large peace of bad
half pence and other Materials for Carrying on this practice and which remain
