To the Right Honble Sr John Fryer< no role > Bar Lord Mayor of the City
of London and to the rest of his Maties Justices of the peace at their Genl
Quarter Sessions of the peace Assembled.

The humble Petition of Thomas Cowslade< no role > . & Company

Sheweth


That on the Twentieth days of November last 341 Quarter & an
half of Malt belonging to yr petitioners was put in a Barge or Vessell
upon the River Thames at Brooks Wharfe , which by reason of
a Suddein & Violent Templestons Storm of Wind and rain that then
arose, the Said Quantity of Malt was unfortunately Castaway by
the Sinking of ye sd Barge or Vessell, for which Your Petrs
had pa [..] Kings Duty

That Your Petitioners have with their Utmost diligence
endeavoured to Save as much as possibly they win out of the
Water And have taken thence29256 Quarters & Seven bushells
which is greatly damaged and the remaining 84 quarter & 5
bushells enterely Lost, by which Your Petitioners are great
sufferers

That Your Petitioners have given Notice to ye Comrs of his
Maties of Excize and have had a View of ye sd Malt with
An officer appointed by them who now attends to Satisfie
the Court in the premisses

Your Petitionr. therefore most humbly pray Your Honr
& Worps will be pleased to Order that they may be Allowed
the whole Duty of ye 84 27 & 4 bushelly and also Such
a proportinable Allowance for ye Damage Lustamed
on ye 256 Qrs & 7 bushells as yr Honr & Worps Shall
Adjudge reasonable And Grant them a Certificate for
that purpose to ye Collectors of ye sd Duty.

And they Shall ever pray Etc
