one of the Churchwardens
of the parish of St. James
Dukes place
London in April 1711 (the other Churchwarden being
before that time failed & gone away) maketh oath, that about
the fifth or sixth day of April aforesaid, a person (unknown to
the Depont) came to this Deponts house & told him that he came from
the Churchwardens of the parish of St Mary Wooludh
. London to acquant
this Depont that the sd Church wardens would Endeavour at the next
Sessions of the peace held for the City of London
, to settle Sarah Corbett< no role >
single woman
upon the sd parish of St James Dukes place
(who, some
time before had been pasted from St James Dukes place to the sd parish
of St Mary Woolnoth
) but the sd person not learing any notice in
writeing for this deponts appearance at the sd next Sessions, nor at any
time afterwards, & this Depont being adurset that a verball notice was
not a due notice, & this Depont depending there upon, did not appear
at the sd Sessions he defend the appeal brought by the sd other parish,
as other wise he would have done
