The Case

On the 13: March 1682; An Act of Com: Councell was made for the Regulating of Hackney Coaches Wch: reduc'd their
Number to 400 & ascertain'd their prices of Hire, places of Standing, Licences Etc Wth diverse Forfeitures for
offendrs: & all Constables to be aiding in the Execucon of the sd: Act

The Court of Aldren 27. June last for ye. better puting in Execucon of the sd: Act of Com: Councell did admit &
appoint Wm. Collins< no role > to be Constable within this City & Libties and also Richard Peinmerton< no role > & Tho: Abrehall< no role > to be his
assistants And on the 20th. of July last appled: John Asterley< no role > to be a Constable & Robt: Clarke< no role > & Tho: Abrehall< no role >
to be his Assistants And repair'd them to prvent [..] the Disorders of licenc'd Nackney Coachmen & to pmit none
unlincenc'd to ply within the City & Libertiel pursuant to the sd. Com: Councell [..] P Ordr.

Sr : John Fleet< no role > Ld. Mayor by warrt: dat [..] 24th: July last Impower'd the said Asterley & Collins (the sd. Constables)
to take up all offendrs: agt: the said Act & to carry them before any Justice of Peace to be dealt with all
according to LawAt P warrt:

On Complaint made (of the Annoyance of ye Excessive Number of Hackney Coaches) at a Generall Sessions of the Peace 5: Dec:
1692. It was ordered That to prvent such Annoyances All Constables in the City should be assisting
to the sd. Collins Etcin theotherwise to be proceeded agt. At the Sessions for such their Neglectat P Ordr.

I say That great Times may be impos'd on the Defth: for abusing the officers at Supre in Contempt
of the sd. Authorities
