Taken this 12th
day of October 1785
before us two of his Majestys Justices of the peace
in and for the said County

on Oath saith the Ashen Oars now produced
belong to a Tour Oar Skiff in his Service of the Inspector
of the River That he on a Saturday the day of the Month he
does not Recollect if three Week or a Month since he moored
said Skiff in the Evening a Stern of the London Assurance Fire
Engine lying of King Stairs
near the Tower of London
That he
locked said Oars in said Skiff at that time and afterward tryed
if he had locked them or not to as Bolt and Chain which was fast
to the second Thwart of said Skiff Says Monday [..] Morning
about the hour of Eleven he went on board the said Skiff
whand found the said Oars gone and the Lock That the
said Oars are not in same Condition they were in at the
Time he left them safe in said Skiff at the time aforesaid
the Marks on the same appearing to have been in part
