Who being upon Oath says that about two Months agoe being the
day preceding the Night that James Knight< no role >
the Publican
was Murdred
near the Cow & Calves
Chelsea
he this Informant and Joseph Gould< no role >
now present having had a half Guinea given then by mistake
instead of a six Pence, they agreed to divide ten Shillings of it between them
and went together to the White Hart
near Earls Court
where
they had a Biscuit and two Potts of Beer & charged said half
Guinea, then went to another Ale huse in the Road and had a
Pott of Beer, then went together to the Cow and Calves and drank
where the Person who formerly kept the red Lyon
was offering
Crass Cocks to Sale to Shelmerdine the Landlord, says they then
went back to Mrs. Mc. Daniel and got two men to do their
Patrole Duty for then, that they there met with Jonathan Stephens< no role >
also now Present, says they all drank together in said Hosue till about
ten o' Clock or a little after, and then said Stephens taking this
Informant's Stick from him they went out of said House together
and Walked along the Road towards the Cow and Calves aforesaid
said Stephens and Gold being at a distance before this Informant
and says that as soon as sd. Stephens and Gould got near to the
door of the Cow and Calves aforesaid he this Informt. heard a
Pistol Fire and then hasting upto said Stephens and Gold saw
a Man very near them Gastring & Staggering & who presently
fell as Dead says be there repremanded them for being there
or bringing him there & observing that the Man was killed
& they shou'd be tried for their lives to which they answered that
it was nothing to him he had done nothing, says they then
went round by the Queens Elen and that Gold and he went into
the black Lyon
where they drank for an hour or upwards but
that Stephens refused to go in with them says that when
they left Mc. Daniel as aforesaid said Gould
