AN INQUISITION indented, taken for our sovereign Lord the King, at the parish
of Saint Mary Stoke Newington in the County of
Middlesex , the fourth Day of April in the twenty third Year of the Reign of
our sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third , by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain, France, and
Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Phillips< no role >
one of the Coroners of our said Lord the King for the said County, on View of the Body of
William Blake< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of
Richard Gwinnett< no role > This name instance is in a workspace. John Newton< no role > Thomas Hall< no role > Thomas Adams< no role > Simon Seymour< no role >
Norman Edridge< no role > William Campion< no role > John Cottle< no role > William Doe< no role > John Morgan< no role >
Alexander Oades< no role > Thomas Porter< no role > and Stephen Hall< no role >
good and lawful Men of the said Count, duly chosen, and who being then and there duly
sworn and charged to inquire, for our said Lord the King, when, how, and by what Means, the
said William Blake< no role > came to his
Death, do, upon their Oath, say, That the said William Blake< no role > not being of sound
Mind Memory and Understanding but Lunatic and distracted on the First Day
of April in the Year aforesaid himself into The New River near Lordship
Lane Bridge in the Parish and County aforesaid Did last and Throw By
Means whereof he the said William Blake< no role > was in the waters of the said River
then and there suffocated and drowned Of which said Suffocation and Drowning
he the said William Blake< no role > then and there died And so the Jurors aforesaid
upon their Oath aforesaid Do say, That the said William Blake< no role > not being
of sound Mind Memory and Understanding but Lunatic and distracted in
Manner and by the Means aforesaid Did drown and Kill himself

IN WITNESS whereof, as well the said Coroner as the said Richard Gwinnett< no role > This name instance is in a workspace.
the Foreman of the said Jurors, on the Behalf of himself and the Rest of his said Fellows, in
their Presence, have, to this Inquisition, set their Hands and Seals, the Day and Year first
above written.
