AN INQUISITION Indented, Taken for our Sovereign Lord the King, at the parish
of Saint John Wapping in the County of
Middlesex , the thirteenth Day of August in the twenty second Year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third , by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain, France, and
Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Phillips< no role >
one of the Coroners of our said Lord the King for the said County, on View of the Body of
John Meek< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of
William Elliott< no role > , Thomas Coe< no role > , Cuthbert Hays< no role > , James French< no role > , Richard Dabney< no role > , William
Taylor, Griffin Boardman< no role > , Joseph Wilson< no role > , John Meers< no role > , Joseph Meers< no role > , James Randall< no role >
and Jonathan Chawlker< no role >
good and lawful Men of the said County, duly chosen, and who being then and there duly
sworn and charged to inquire, for our said Lord the King, when, how, and by what Means, the
said John Meek< no role > came to his
Death, Do, upon their Oath, say, That the said John Meek< no role > on the Sixth Day of
August in the year aforesaid being a Mariner on Board a Ship called The Jenny
then lying on The River Thames near The Tower of London And being endeavouring
to put an Hammock upon the Main Stay of the said Ship It so happened
That he the said John Meek< no role > then and there accidentally casually and by Misfortune
fell from the said Ship into The River aforesaid And was in the Waters thereof

IN WITNESS whereof, as well the said Coroner as the said William Elliott< no role >
the Foreman of the said Jurors, on the Behalf of himself and the Reft of his said Fellows, in
their Presence, have, to this Inquisition, set their Hands and Seals, the Day and Year frist
above written.
