Informations of Witnesses taken at theDwellingLodge of he House of
Correction Clerkenwell the Sign of Bridewell
in the Parish of Saint James Clerkenwell in the County of Middlesex on
Wednesday the Nineteenth day of1786 Before
Edward Umfreville< no role > Esquire one of his Majesty's Coroners for the said County
touching the Death of James Simpson< no role > then and there
lying dead as follow

Richard Ilsley< no role > . Nurse of the Mens Sick Ward in the said
Prison upon his Oath Saith That on Friday Morning last
the deceased was brought into the Sick Ward, ill of a cold
Shivering and pain in his bones an fill of an Agne
and continued so violently ill until Saturday Night when
he died. and Saith Thateary proper (and was taken of
him.

Thomas Gibbs< no role > the Younger of New North Street Red Lyon Square
upon Surgeon and Apothecary upon his Oath Saith That
he is Surgeon & Apothecary to the Prison and as it is his
Custom to attend every Morning at the said prison and
sometimes twice a Day he onFridayThursday Morning last
saw the deceased who complained of a Shivering & was
very dry and Sick at his Stomach upon which he
ordered him a proper Medicine but on ye next Morning
on coming to the Prison was surprized to find his Legs
and Comes tyed and on asking the Reasonforwardwas
