Informations of Witnesses taken at the Dwelling
House of Robert Hance< no role > the Sign of Mitre
in the Parish of St. Mary Islington in the County of Middlesex
on Monday the 26th.day of June 1786 . Before
Thomas Phillips< no role > Esquire one of his Majestys Coroners
for the said County touching the Death of a Man Unknown
then and there lying dead as follow

Nathaniel James< no role > of Islington a Watchman
Upon his Oath Saith That about three O Clock in
Saturday Morning he observed the deceased in the
New River swimming on the Surface seemingly
in a drawing State Upon which he gave an
Alann there was a Man in ye Waters & Some
people came and assisted Deponent to get
the deceased out of the Water Who appeared
to have some Life and was taken to the Red
Lyon in Colebrook Row.-a Surgeon was fetched
and upon voicing the Body & not finding any
Life did not use any means for his Recovery
without Effort.
