An Inquisition indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at
London that is to say at the parish of Saint Botolph without Bishopsgate in the
Ward of Bishopsgate without in London aforesaid on the first day of March in the thirty
ninth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third King of Great Britain
and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City
of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the body of John Watts< no role > now here
lying dead by the oath of Joseph Draper< no role > , John Frater< no role > , John Stokes< no role > , William Acton< no role > , David

good and lawful men of the City of London aforesaid who being now here duly chosen
sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King when how and in what manner
the said John Watts< no role > came to his death say upon their oath that the said John Watts< no role >
on the twenty eighth day of February in the year aforesaid at the parish and ward aforesaid
in London aforesaid not being of sound mind memory and understanding but lunatic
and distracted one end of a certain handkerchief of no value (unto the end of which
said handkerchief was tied a certain other handkerchief of no value) round and about his
own neck and the other end of the said last mentioned handkerchief unto and about
a certain Iron gate belonging to a certain meeting house there situateand the other said
of the said last mentioned handkerchief [..] about his [..]
did then and there
fix tye and fasten by means whereof the said John Watts< no role > did then and there hang strangle
and suffocate himself of which said hanging strangling and suffocation the said John Watts< no role >
did then and there die and so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say
that the said John Watts< no role > not being of sound mind memory and understanding but lunatic
and distracted did hang and kill himself In Witness whereof as well the said
Coroner as the said Joseph Draper< no role > the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself
and the rest of his fellows in their presence have to this Inquisition set their
hands and deals the day year and place first above written.
