Southwark

Informations of Witnesses taken at the parish of Saint
Thomas within the Boro. of Southwark
on the 8th. day of October 1798 on view of
the body of Mary Ann< no role > Garratt there
lying dead.

Samuel Holmes< no role > of Bird Cage Walk Hackney
road in the Co. of Middx maketh oath that on Monday the
24th. Septr. about half past 8 he heard a Child scream which
occasioned dept to go round to Edey's Gardens which was just by
when her saw the deced a Child about nine years old in the street
& she ran up to Dept-That her Cloaths were in flames
anor. person present took hold of the deced & led her to a pump
where Dept & anor. pson pumped water upon her and extinguished
the Fire. That her things were afterwards taken off her, Dept
reld. home with the deced to where she lived, & there on her being
asked how her cloaths had taken fire she sayed she had been
reading a small book & she shot a Coat had fallen upon her frock
& set it on fire Says there were only her small Children at the
House besides the deced-That the House is kept by a Mr. Cruse
whose Wife had the deced & the two Children before mentd. at nurse.

John Bateman< no role > a Dresser at Saint Thomas's Hospital
maketh oath that the deced was bro't to the Hospital last
Wednesday Sennight very much burned. That she was dressed the died
the week following. She was so much hurt that when dept first
saw her he had little hopes of her recovery.
