An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London (that is to say) at
the Parish of Saint Bartholomew the less in the Ward of Farringdon without in London aforesaid
on the eleventh day of May in the thirty seventh year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the third King of Great Britain and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman
Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view
of the body of Isaac Hendley< no role > now here lying dead by the oath of Robert Towers< no role > George
Moore Henry Beedle Thomas Ladd< no role > William Bumsted< no role > Joshua Hill< no role > Charles Gale< no role > Prince
Edward King< no role > Draper Brewman< no role > Lewis Cole< no role > Charles Haskins< no role > Thomas Weightman< no role >
Henry Tyler< no role > William Wheeler< no role > George Godfrey< no role > Thomas Elliott< no role > John Bush< no role > John Yeates< no role >
and William Hughes< no role > good and lawful men of the City of London aforesaid who being
now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King when
how and in what manner the said Isaac Hendley< no role > came to his death say upon their
oath that the said Isaac Hendley< no role > on the ninth day of May in the year aforesaid at the
parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County of Middlesex not being of sound mind
memory and understanding but lunatic and distracted with a certain Razor of the value
of one penny which he the said Isaac Hendley< no role > in his right hand then and there had and
held the neck and throat of himself the said Isaac Hendley< no role > did then and there violently
cut giving to himself the said Isaac Hendley< no role > with the Razor aforesaid one mortal wound
in and upon the throat of himself the said Isaac Hendley< no role > of which said mortal wound he
the said Isaac Hendley< no role > from the said ninth day of May in the year aforesaid until the tenth
day of the same month of May in the same year as well at the said Parish of Saint Leonard
Shoreditch in the County of Middlesex as also at the aforesaid parish of Saint Bartholomew
the less in the Ward of Farringdon without in the City of London aforesaid did languish
and languishing did live and on the same day and year last aforesaid at the Parish
last aforesaid in the Ward aforesaid in London aforesaid the said Isaac Hendley< no role > of the said
mortal wound did die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say
that the said Isaac Hendley< no role > not being of sound mind memory and understanding
but lunatic and distracted in manner and by the means aforesaid did kill
himselfIn Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Robert Towers< no role >
the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in
their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year
and place first above written.
