Nicholas Birch< no role > of Mansell Street Gordman Fields in the
County of Middx Surgeon maketh Oath that [..] between nine
& ten on the Evening of the 12th. inst. Dept. having been sent forto the
deced
went to a House in Johns Court Somerset Street that
he found the deced on a Bed on the Ground floor Dept. went
to him in order to examine him the deced sayed he had received
a very unluckey Accident that he had been working upon a
Gun Barrel< no role > that upon putting the Gun Barrel into the
fire [..] (which unfortunately turned out to be loaded) when
it became hot in unfortunately went off and shot him in
the Thigh Dept. then examined the deced Thigh & found
that a Ball had penetrated the fore part of the left Thigh
& had passed through the thigh & lay very near the Skin
Thighon the opposite side Dept. made an incission in the skin down
upon the Ball & extracted it and having directeddropedthe wound
to be dressed he advised him to be taken to an Hospital &
then left him.

Surgeon maketh Oath that on Saturday as he believes the 13th. inst
he saw the deced at the London Infirmary where Dept. attends
sometimes that upon examining the deced he found he had
reced a Gun shot wound in the upper part of the left Thigh
Dept. asked the deced now it had happened he sayed that
he was a Gun smith that he was usually employed [..] in cleang
Guns that came from on board ship. that he had put a
parcel of Gun Barrels into the Fire in order to clean them with there
Muzzled pointed into the fire. that he had turned them and
that having turned them with the Muzzels pointed
towards him one of them went off & shot him in the
ThighDept attend the deced several times after [..] That
appeared to be getting better until Thursday last when his Wound got Worse and
on Saturday Dept. understood he diedDept. has no doubt
that the Wound occasioned the deceds death
