Depositions of Witnesses taken at London
that is to say at the Parish of Saint Bartholomew
the less in the Ward of Farringdon without
in London aforesaid this 12th. day of January
1796 on view of the Body of George Davis< no role >
now here lying Dead

Daniel Hancock< no role > of No.14 Benjamin Street< no role > Cow Cross in
the County of Middx Ladies Cushion maker maketh Oath
that he hath known the deced George Davis< no role > about five Years
that he was a Carpenter by trade That about nine o'Clock on
Friday Morning last Dept. was at the Horse Shoe Public
House in Benjamin Street aforesaid that in consequence of
Dept. having been sent for he went to the House of Phineas
Nunes No.36 Red Lion Street where the deced lodged Dept.
& Mr. Nunes went up Stairs to a three pair of Stairs Room
wherein the deced lodged that they found the Door shut &
fastened insideDept. by Mr. Nunes direction forced the
Door open and went into the Room and found the deced
lying upon his back on the floor between the Bedside and
the Wall of the Room that he had a large cut or Wound on
his Throat under the Chin that a great quantity of blood
issued from the Wound that he Struggled very much and
was insensible that the alarm was given and Dept. having left
the Room returned again immediately and found the deced
had turned himself on his side that upon examining the deced
afterewards they found a Pen Knife in the deceds right hand
that the wound was soon after sewed up and the deced was
taken to the Hospital. Dept: saw the deced once or twice
afterwards while at the Hospital that he appeared sensible
but could not speack Dept. saw the deced about ten oClock
on Sunday Morning last that he appeared to be dying and
Dept. has been informed the deced died soon after that when
Dept. forced the door open it was locked inside that for a fortnight
before Dept. found the deced as before stated he has seen the deced
several timesandthat he appeared very dull and melancholy
and when spoke to sometimes would answer & sometimes not
that the deced the day before Dept. found him as before stated
[..] appeared very dull and complained very much of want
of marks
