LondonDepositions of Witnesses taken at London
that is to say at the Parish of Allhallows
the Less in the Ward of Dowgate in London
aforesaid this 24th. day of December 1795
on view of the Body of John Winter< no role > now
here lying dead.

John Strong< no role > of No. 2 Old Bermondsey Street Southwark Lighterman
maketh Oath that he hath known the deced Joseph Winter< no role >
about two years that he was about Nine Years of age that
between eleven & twelve yesterday Morning the deced was in a
Skiff with dept. alongside some Craft at Dowgate Wharf Dept gave the
deced a Broom & a Rovel & told him to take them to Mr Raby's
at the Wharf Dept. put [..] deced into a Craft that lay
outer mort from the Wharf & told him to mind how he went
along there being two other Craft within which the deced
had to pass over Dept. pushed the Skiff a little was from
the outermost Craft and in a very little time heard something
squarkDept. went to the Wharf and seeing a Brown in the
Water & looking about [..] missing the deced he suspected
he had fallen overboard Dept gave the alarm in about a
Master of an hour the deced was taken out of the Water and
Dept assisted in bringing him to the Dyers Arms that he appeared
quite dead that [..] means were tried to restore the deced but
without effect.
